Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium posts which are used to replace missing tooth roots. They provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable teeth made to match your natural teeth. The implant or artificial root is placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia, then allowed to heal and integrate with the bone. They can also be placed under full dentures to aid in the stability.
Implants are very predictable and can be used in a myriad of ways:
- Single Tooth Replacement of a missing tooth
- Replacing a section of missing teeth with new permanent teeth
- Anchoring of a removable prosthesis with “snap” attachments.
What to expect?
After developing your tailored treatment plan, Dr. Siegel and Dr. Dolt will place the titanium implant within the original tooth’s bone socket using very precise 3D printed surgical guide which alleviates surgical guess-work.
Over time as the jawbone heals, it grows around the titanium post securing it to the bone. Generally, the healing process will take from six to 12 weeks (approx. 2 months). Once the implant has bonded to the bone, Dr. Siegel and Dr. Dolt will place a small connector post called an abutment (titanium or zirconia), the abutment is then attached to the implant post to securely hold the new tooth. A replacement tooth known as a crown will then be attached to the abutment.
Another option is the screw retained option, where the dentist will use a screw to integrate the crown with the implant. Dr. Siegel and Dr. Dolt will customize your crown to match the look and shape of the surrounding natural teeth. Both options are based on each patient’s need and the dentist will discuss the best options for you.
